WI Walking Netball
As part of a Netball England initiative we now have a WI Walking Netball Group, where the emphasis is on having fun, a giggle and a wiggle!
We are a group of enthusiastic players who enjoy keeping fit and playing a team game. It is also an excellent way of meeting with other local WI members when we have a friendly match or take part in mini tournaments.
We meet on Thursday afternoons at 4.30pm, either in the village hall or at Lulworth village school's outside netball court, depending on the weather.
We always welcome more players to join us (no experience necessary!). 
West Lulworth WI was first introduced to Walking Netball by England Netball at their meeting in November 2019. and the Lulworth Fossils team was formed in early 2020. Since then, to increase the number of players an invite was given to Wool WI and has recently been extended to Broadmayne WI.
The WI were able to undertake 20-weeks of training and instruction from an England Netball coach in conjuction with England Netball and the WI Walking Netball Programme. Covid 19 meant the group had to suspend its sessions until they could begin again, completing the programme in October 2021.
We have two WI Walking Netball Hosts who have carried out their training, Sally Childs-Slade and Gillian Coxhead. They organise weekly sessions for the group at Lulworth C of E Primary School (outside court May to September) weather permitting or at Lulworth Village Hall (October to April) with sessions commencing at 4.30pm for one hour.
The Lulworth Fossils wear turquoise team shirts with a fossil emblem. The team have played friendly matches with WIs from Sturminster Marshall, Child Okeford, Studland and Swanage, ending the game with tea and cake. We also took part in a South-West Walking Netball Festival held at Yeovil in February 2022 and a Mini-Walking Netball Festival held for local WI teams at Swanage in July 2022. There will be future events that the team will take part in throughout the year.
